Bio

Soetkin Elbers was born in Brussels in 1986 and started studying singing, flute, piano, harmony and drama in the Kunstacademie in Knokke-Heist at the age of 8. In 2003 she enrolled in the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel as a voice student in the class of Dina Grossberger. In 2007 she went to study with Kai Wessel in the Konservatorium Wien Privatuniversität as a student in the Erasmus program. In 2008 she graduated as a Master Voice in Brussels. Currently she's proceeding her studies with Mr. Wessel in Vienna.

She has performed in 2006 in two pasticcios "Ifigenia & Ipermestra" under the musical direction of Paul Dombrecht and stage direction by Sigrid T'Hooft, in 2007 in "The Fairy Queen" in the Opera Royal de Liège under Sebastien Rouland and stage direction by Deda Cristina Colonna and in 2008 in the Schauspielhaus of the Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe in "Apollo e Dafne" by Händel under Peter Van Heyghen and the stage direction by Sigrid T'Hooft. By working with Sigrid T'Hooft, she has developed a great interest and some practical experience in the usage of baroque gestures, which lead to an invitation to the conference "Barocktheater Heute" in June 2007 in Berlin.

Concert projects in 2008 included a performance of "Judith", a cantata by French baroque composer Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre in Vienna, a concert performance of "Apollo e Dafne" in Antwerp with the ensemble 'Les Muffatti' under Peter Van Heyghen, and in November the part of Uranio in a concert performance by the Konservatorium Wien Privatuniversität of "Il Narciso" by Pistocchi under the direction of Kai Wessel.

The musical highlights in 2009 were a concert performance of arias and scenes from operas by Lully with the ensemble 'les sentimens' in the institution for French culture in Innsbruck and the international masterclass "Mass in B-Minor" (soloist performance) under the direction of Sigiswald Kuijken in Antwerp.

In 2010 she sang the part of Belinda in a concert performance of Purcell's opera "Dido and Aeneas" in Vienna, and in May of the same year she sang the opening concert of the Music Festival for Organ and Chamber Music in Rożyńsk Wielki (Poland). In July and August she sang the part of Diana in Francesco Gasparini's componimento da camera "L'Oracolo del Fato" in Damtschach (Austria), again working with Sigrid T'Hooft.

Soetkin Elbers made her first appearance as a soloist on the cd "The Forqueray Family" (2009) for label Brilliant Classics.
